Breakfast at the Presidente InterContinental Hotel

June 30, 2008

My favorite Weekend breakfast destinations in Monterrey is theLos Continentes restaurant in the Presidente InerContinental hotel. All mornings including weekdays, they serve this wonderful Mexican buffet; the special thing about this buffetrelays on the flavour; it seems that all the food is homemade and it hardly taste like a boring continental breakfast that you could find in any other hotel.

Another thing I like about this restaurant is the people that go there; it is not only made for guest, but is mainly visited by local families that dress all up just for breakfast. I’ve only been there for breakfast and brunch, but the restaurant is open for all meals and their Tortilla Soup is a Must for all the visitors.

The perfect day to be there is Sunday, the restaurant is located in the first floor of the hotel.

La Casa de Lola, a Girl with a lot of gests

June 27, 2008

Well, it seems that a lot of people end in this blog because they are searching for a club named Casa de Lola; I think is time i write something for them.

La Casa de Lola, is a Gay or as they describe themselves an Open Bar located near downtown Monterrey; this club is not  in the Barrio Antiguo area, but in a nearby place where there is no other club around (Just the Taboo).

Casa de Lola is one of my favorite 3 clubs in the city, why? because is away of everything, they have great music (a mixture of electro and electropop in Saturdays), they have great drinks (i recommend you to try the watermelon martini) and the cover is not expensive, just 5 U.S. dollars or 50 pesos.

The only things that I don’t like a lot about this place are: Parking spaces are sometimes difficult to find if you arrive late, but they have a ballet parking service; you have to arrive before 12 and find a table because the place is always crowded; and they have a live band, they sound good, but personally i don’t live live music in clubs. Rather than that, is a wonderful place, where you’ll find interesting people in an interesting place.

If you want to book a table, they’ll ask you to buy some drinks (a beer cubeta), and if you want to book a table in the couch area they’ll ask you to buy a bottle that cost approx. 1,200 pesos or 120 dollars; it’s kind of expensive, but worth.

Estia Restaurant, A little bit of Grece in the Barrio Antiguo

June 26, 2008

One of my favorite restaurants in Monterrey is surely Estia, this Greek and Mediterranean located in the downtown area known as Barrio Antiguo, offers the visitor a piece of the European country. The dishes are almost perfect and the architecture takes you to the Greek Island from the moment you step in.

My favorite dish is Rice with chicken, something that seems a little bit simple, but i can assure you that you will be amazed. If you are planning to impress someone, or just want to experience the international cuisine of the City, Estia is definitely one of my top 10 options to go. Another positive aspect about this restaurant is its location; as I said before, the restaurant is in downtown, just across the street from the Modern Art Museum MARCO, and two blocks from the Macroplaza.

Prices are surely over 100 pesos per person, bur i can assure that is all worth; in the nights, The second floor is transformed into a sexy Lounge where you can chill out in Europe without leaving the city.

unfortunately, the Restaurant doesn’t have web page, but i link it to Que Comer web page, where you can find some photos and more information in Spanish about this place. If you are planning to visit, I recomend you to call and make a reservation.

Little Bag Communitea

June 26, 2008

Mexico is a coffee country for excellence, we can say that is the National Breakfast Drink and almost all Mexicans have at least one cup of coffee per day. That is why I love Little Bag Communitea, a local franchise that is planning to turn Monterrey into Tea.

Little Bag is my favorite Coffee sorry, Tea shop ever they have 4 locations in the city and they are planning to open more. When you arrive to a Little Bag establishment, the  of welcoming feeling is there,  they have lots and lots of big tars full of tea just for you;they don’t do pre-made thing, all their tea is natural and waiting for you.

You can choose from a hot or a cold or even iced tea, from strawberry to mint or a mixture of blueberry and black tea, whatever you want; they also have a great variety of accessories for your personal tea party and fresh tea can be bought for some pesos. This is the perfect place to seat and relax, chat with friends or have dessert, so next time you are in Valle Oriente Shopping Mall, i recommend you to go and visit Little Bag Communitea.

Hot Iced Bubble tea in Tapioca House

June 26, 2008

One of the hottest spot for young regios is Tapioca House, a new trendy Bubble Tea store located in San Pedro Garza Garcia. They have a big variety of flavours and mixtures to make the drink you want. They have 3 establishmentsin the city, but the one located in San Pedro is definitely the place to be; Even when it is located in one of the many plazas in the area, and even when the store is quite small, the people still pack  the place. There you can find families and teenagers chatting and drinking while watching the view of the San Pedro urban area.

The place is always packed with people and prices are accessible, so next time you are near Chipinque area, you could visit Tapioca House.

Pacifica, Langosta Bar

June 25, 2008

One of my favorite restaurants in Monterrey is Pacifica, Langosta bar. This sea food and lobster restaurant located in the heart of the Valle Oriente area is a must for sea food lovers.

From traditional Mexican food such as the Molcajetes (shrimp or beef with Mexican salsa, onion and cactus in a hot Mexican recipient) to the classical lobster.

One of my faborite dishes here, is a little appetizer, sea tacos, a really good starter.

There’s no need to make reservations to this place, but must of the times the place is crowded and you’ll have to wait for a table, something that is worth, and meanwhile you can have one of their Clamato drinks in the nice terrace facing the mountains in Valle Oriente area. Sorry i didn’t put a link to their web page, but it seems that they don´t have any.

The only negative aspects that I could possibly find are the waiting time for a table (sometimes is 1 min, some others 10 or 15) and if you don’t want to expend over 50 U.S. dollars, this is not the place for you.

Calzada 401

June 20, 2008

A must for shopping in Monterrey is definitely Calzada 401, a outside plaza in the city of San Pedro Garza Garcia, just in front of the Calzada del Valle. This plaza is located in one of the hottest spots of Monterrey City and in this black collored plaza you can find from restaurants to dog’s clothing stores. The boutiques you can find in this plaza are:

Binna: a makeup and accessoriesstore that also provide services for special events, makeup for weddings and makeup classes. They offer u the best specialized services, always with a smile in their faces.

Gant: One of my favorite stores of the plaza,Gant offers you different accessories from lamps to mirrors to teddy bears to office equipment; this store is a MUST for all the people that love accessories and how we say in Spanish “chucherias”.

Mani Maalai: a Jewelery store that sells earth inspired jewelry; i must say i love what they do and  the way they do it; in a sense, this store brings some Asia to Monterrey in my personal opinion. It’s a great store for gifts and some personal pleasures.

Maru Zubiria: Maru Zubiria is the perfect store for babies, this store sells all the accessories needed for the young ones, from towels to dipper bags.

Bistro Bardot: A French restaurant in the third floor that makes you feel somewhere else, this chic and classy restaurant is perfect for couples, dates or formal business diners; if your plan is to impress someone, this is a great option.

Fanattic: Even when I’m not into watching sports events, I must say that I’m becoming a sports fanattic if that means going to this restaurant; this is the perfect place in the city to go and chill out while watching some soccer or a NFL game. This is a great place to go with friends (i don’t recommend you to go with your wife or girl friend or your boyfriend in the case of a girl unless they love sports).

Muelle de al Lado: A good fish restaurant in the area, where you can find  the traditional sea food.

Salute: This Mediterranean Cuisine and Bar Restaurant is one of my favorite places in the city, located in the extreme of the Plaza, you can seat in the terraza looking directly to the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Calzada del Valle; I have to say they make the most delicious crepes in the city.

Starbucks: What can I say about Starbucks; I just have to say that THIS  Starbucks is the place to see and be seeing in the city, they have a great outdoor sitting place.

Ka International: A Design store with internationalal presence opened a store in Monterrey; they sell everything you could possibly need for decorating your house or garden. I’m a HUGE fan of this store, i really love it and i really think that if you are looking for something unique and chic, you should visit.

Snneh Rugs: MY favorite store in the city; they have the BEST Persian rugs you could possibly find in Monterrey I assure you that. All rugs are imported from Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and China with the Best quality you could ever find. The Rugs are Craft made .

Kerato By Carnevali: a Brazilian Jewelery that sells designer pieces; this store is one of many in the world, their design is modern and classic at the same time giving the customer a perfect piece.

Hugo Boss: There is not much to say about this well known brand; you can find the perfect outfit.

Lacoste: Lacoste opens a small store where you can find all the classic designs from the brand; this store is designed for the classic costumer.

Lopez Morton: A specialized office furniture store, they sell everything you need in terms of desktops and other products made to make your office more comfortable and attractive.

Of course there are several other stores and restaurants, but i only included the ones with a webpage, so you could visit the sites, i also recomend a great store called La Boutique Du Chien, where they sell everything you need for your dog.

Akbal lounge

June 3, 2008

Akbal Lounge is one of Monterrey best kept secrets, a hidden lounge in a second floor its a mixture of french glamour and modern nightlife; with its red walls, dark spaces illuminated by red lights and candles surrounded by mirrors and the hottest people in town is the place to be in Monterrey.

Music its a mixture of European and American electro, always with a touch of glam and some sexinesscommon in this place; the lounge is divided in 2 areas, a closed full of coaches and lamps and a open area, both small areas that help create the feeling of an old french house; crowded all days, but weekends are the hottest days for being there. On Sunday, Akbal its open as a gay  or gayfriendly lounge but visited by all.

On Fridays and Saturdays Shishas or Narguiles are part of the charm, giving the feeling of an old moroccan harem. The Akbal Lounge its a MUST for all those who like to being watch, hot, coture and fashion are opcional… but i really recomend them.
